Frequently Asked Questions
Answers before you call
Straight answers to the questions we hear most from homeowners around Fort Mill and the Carolina suburbs. Do not see yours here? Just give us a call.
Most residential removals in this area run between roughly $450 and $2,500, and large oaks or pines crowded against the house can go higher. The price comes down to the tree's height and lean, how close it is to your home or the power lines, the access we have to it, and how much cleanup is involved. We always give you a firm written estimate for free before any work begins, and the number we quote is the number you pay.
Yes. We work the South Carolina side, including Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill, Indian Land, and Lake Wylie, and we cross the line into North Carolina for Huntersville and the Lake Norman area. The Catawba River corridor ties the whole service area together, and we are fully licensed and insured to work in both states.
We are. Fort Mill Tree Removal carries full licensing and liability insurance covering our work on both sides of the state line. That protects you: if anything were to go wrong on a large job over your home, it is our responsibility and not your liability. We are glad to confirm our coverage before we start.
It depends on where you live. Some municipalities and many homeowners associations in fast-growing areas like Fort Mill and Indian Land have rules about removing certain trees, especially larger ones or those in common or buffer areas. Trees that are dead or clearly hazardous are usually exempt. We can point you in the right direction, but the final approval is between you and your city or HOA.
Get everyone to a safe spot away from the damage and stay clear of any downed power lines, which you should always treat as live. Then call us. We will talk you through it, get out to secure the hazard, and photograph the damage so it is easy to file with your insurance. Please do not try to move storm-damaged wood yourself, since it is often under tension and can spring or roll unpredictably.
Often it will, particularly when a tree has hit a covered structure like your home, garage, or fence. Coverage varies from policy to policy, so we document the damage and the work thoroughly and give you what you need to support a claim. Check with your insurer about the specifics of your coverage, and we will handle our part of the paperwork carefully.
Usually, yes, though it takes planning. Many lots in Tega Cay and along Lake Wylie slope steeply toward the water with tight access, so we often rely on climbing and hand rigging rather than large machines. We lower wood in controlled sections to protect your lawn, landscaping, dock, and the shoreline. We will assess access at the free estimate and tell you exactly how we plan to approach it.
Stump grinding uses a machine to chip the stump down below grade and leaves the underground roots to decay naturally in the soil, which is faster, cheaper, and much easier on your yard. Full removal pulls the entire root ball out and leaves a large hole. For nearly every residential yard, grinding is the better choice, and it lets you replant, sod, or reclaim the spot.
Cabling and bracing make sense when a mature, otherwise healthy tree has one identifiable structural weakness, like a tight fork splitting into two heavy stems or a crack where a big limb meets the trunk. Adding a hidden support system can take the strain off that weak point and buy a valued shade tree many more years. We will assess the specific tree and tell you honestly whether support is the smart call or whether removal is safer.
More urgent than most people think. Loblolly pines are shallow-rooted and grow tall and heavy up top, and in our saturated red clay a dead or leaning pine can uproot in a single wet, windy night. If a pine over your house has started leaning, dropping bark, or losing its needles, it is worth having looked at soon rather than waiting for the next storm to decide for you.
Yes, cleanup is part of every job unless you tell us otherwise. Standard cleanup means chipping the brush, hauling off the logs, and raking and blowing the work area so your yard is left tidy. If you would like to keep the wood for firewood, just let us know and we will cut the rounds to length and stack them instead of hauling them away.
For a standard estimate we can usually get out within a few days, often sooner. Storm and hazard situations jump to the front of the line, and we prioritize homes with a tree on the structure. When you call, we will give you an honest timeframe rather than a promise we cannot keep.
